REVIEW: Hanaka Charcoal Pore Reduces Black Rose Mask

WARNING: This post contains unpleasant images

Hello everyone.

As I mentioned on most of my previous reviews, I do have pore problems. Enlarged pores, blackheads and whiteheads - I don't understand why they are my skin's bestfriend. My mother on the other hand, has a perfect complexion that she don't have issues with pores. Its either the matter of age or its just because I am very noob on taking a good care of my skin. My blackheads and whiteheads problem have not yet resolved but they are decreasing rapidly with good skincare regime I am going through. Yeay me! But of course, living here in Malaysia (with pollution and what not) causing the skin to trap impurities and clogging pores. Aside from that, I do have combination to oily skin to start with so my pores tend to be enlarged thus increasing the pores' capability to trap dirt. Boohoo. To those having almost the same condition as me, I do suggest that you always take a good care of your pores or you might end up like me, or the surface of the moon. LOL. I used Sophimonk's pore pack previously (and still using) but I decided to give this a try since its black in color and I love the color because the "results" later will be clearly seen. If you get what I mean. I bought Hanaka Charcoal Pore Reduces Black Charcoal Rose Mask. I bought it at an online shop for RM2.20 of approximately less than 1 USD for 10g (one time usage). Here are the photos.

Product

This mask acts as a pore pack. If you have heard of Biore Pore Pack, yup its something like that. Biore Pore Pack looks like bandages but this pore pack is in liquid form. It is designed to pull out stubborn blackheads and whiteheads along with other impurities deep within the pores. The texture of the mask is very thick, I can say it feels like thick glue. It is sticky and black in color. It smells like one too. I hate the fact that it smells like glue as I don't prefer putting glue on my face just to clean up my pores. It will solidify in 30 minutes to an hour time depending on the thickness of usage. Mine was an hour or more as I used up the whole thing (which makes the mask super thick on my skin and looks so plastic like gloss). Here is how the texture looks like.

How I use it

Basically before I use this mask, I used peeling gel, then charcoal mask (rinse off mask) to remove impurities and surface the blackheads and whiteheads. I then rinse my skin with warm water a few times because I am too lazy to use warm cloth to open up my pores. While letting it wet (I always let my skin wet when applying pore pack), I put on this mask on the areas I am focusing on to remove blackheads and whiteheads. I put on my nose area, forehead and my chin. I can't find the exact directions of use so I am not sure how to actually use this.

Effects

During application, I don't feel any tingly feeling so it is a plus point to me. I often have to deal with tingly sensation during application of pore related products so I will be very careful during application. When it solidifies, I have to peel the mask off - which is rather easy if I put on a thick layer of the mask. The downturn is that, it hurts! It feels exactly like when I am using Biore Pore Pack (like taking off strong plasters/bandages on my skin). It even feels like my hair was being pulled out too. If you have ever used Biore Pore Pack before, you will expect the same sensation during removal. It does not occur to be painful at all for Sophiemonk so I decided to repurchase Sophiemonk's pore pack yesterday because I love it too much (and huge discounts yesterday). Although this black mask did quite a good job on removing blackheads and whiteheads, I must say it is not as good as my favorite pore pack (I mentioned it too much in this review LOL). Results? Here it is!

Nose area
Close ups

It is not as disgusting as the ones I posted for Sophiemonk's review so I don't see the reason why I need to warn you before looking through the pictures. LOL. It came out lesser than I expect it would be and I was a bit frustrated with the results. I am not sure if I used it wrongly or it just doesn't work that well. At least I don't feel too frustrated as the price itself makes me limit my expectation. I tried a lot of angles on taking the pictures to let you see clearer but I couldn't get the best spot with the most impurities. The pictures I posted is basically the most I could get from the mask. Believe me, I tried. Most of it came from the nose area. I am not sure how many usage per sachet it can be but I think once you open it, you just need to throw the leftover away. It solidifies easily so keeping it will be just a waste of time. Regarding skin, my pores tend to get a little bit enlarged due to removal of impurities by force so I will then later use pore tightening mask to finish the routine. I find that my skin is softer (especially on my nose) for three days maximum and my blackheads/whiteheads return. At least three days without them is good enough for me.

My ratings:

Effectiveness: ★★★☆☆ (it is average to me, Biore Pore Pack works as good without the hassle to wait for an hour for it to dry up)

Packaging: ★★★☆☆ (cute and I love that it is black in color but it is not convenient to use the mask when it comes in sachet especially that the mask is super sticky)

Price: ★★★★☆ (it is indeed cheap and the mask in each sachet is a lot so if you decided to use it throughout your face it is still enough, results are according to their claims so it is considered okay)

Long term effect: ★★★★☆ (with the fact that my skin turns softer without bumpy feeling on the nose for three days is good enough to compare with Biore Pore Pack)

Overall, I do recommend this because it does what it claims. I cannot say it does wonder but it is simply an okay product for me. I don't have anything to rave about it but I do on Sophiemonk. It is cheap and worth the try. I might or might not use it the right way so maybe if you try it, the results are actually much better than mine. The good thing is that it is not limited to one spot like Biore Pore Pack and you can put the mask on wherever spot you think needs "stock clearance". I won't repurchase but I don't regret purchasing it. I hope this review helps!

Regards

Anyway, my first box of sophiemonk bought at nattacosme and after few uses I gave it to my brother because he had the same problem. Just checkout your nearest Watsons where the shop is very big like in one utama klcc, or sunway pyramid and find sophiemonk's rack. All the best!
